Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Wonderful mid-1970s Chicago Black Hawks durene game-worn jersey made its debut in the 1974 playoffs, when No. 12 was worn by Lynn Powis for one game, with Ivan Boldirev taking over No. 12 the following season, when the jersey is attributed to have been worn by Boldirev. Wilson size 48 tagging is in the back of the neck along with a frayed Gunzo’s tag that only remains stitched on along the bottom edge. The jersey has a garter-style fight strap and the "74 PO" tag is sewn inside the right front hem. There are two team repairs on the right front tail, three team repairs on the right sleeve and two on the left, which has a solid board burn with red paint transfer to the left of the numbers.
More game wear includes black marks and red and blue paint transfer on the front, black marks, board burns and unrepaired holes on the sleeves, stitching that has let go on the numbers on the sleeves, board burns and red paint transfer on the rear tail, and pilling inside the sleeves.
We see no evidence of numbers or team crest alterations. There is also evidence of a short former nameplate, with nameplates mandated for television use and later removed. Powis only played one playoff game for Chicago in 1973-74 (and we were unable to determine if it was a home or road game), with Boldirev taking over No. 12 the following season; the jersey is attributed to have been worn by Boldirev in the 1974-75 season. It is most likely the jersey was recycled down to a farm team as was typical for Black Hawks jerseys from this period.
