Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
Well-worn Nike mesh Oilers affair worn in American Hockey League play by Darren Welsh in 1988-89. The possibility exists that this shirt was worn the previous year by a member of the Nova Scotia Oilers as well as there is evidence of a former nameplate. The jersey, similar to those worn by the parent Edmonton Oilers franchise, is tagged in the neck by Nike in size XL and has the Nike swoosh logo screened onto the outer lower hem. Two-tone number 14 appears on the arms and back with WELSH crossing a stunted bullet-mesh nameplate. Loop-style fight strap sewn inside. The Cape Breton crest is sewn on the chest and the shirt shows nice game wear with dozens of stick marks on the arms and lower front. This Nike style is becoming very difficult to find intact as collectors have been snapping them up to convert into replica Gretzky jerseys!
