Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
With a purplish tint to them, these obscure relics feature senior hockey players who were cheered in the lower St. Lawrence River region towns of Mont-Joli, Riviere-du-Loup, Rimouski and Matane, Quebec. Notables in the set are goaltender Denis Brodeur, father of NHL record holder Martin Brodeur, goalie Marcel Paille, whose over 20 years in pro hockey included time with the New York Rangers, and Gerry Plamondon, a top senior hockey scorer after winning the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1945-46. In the acceptable VG neighborhood is the way we see things, with most cards in the Good to VG range, with however a handful making it to VG-EX and a few EX cards spotted, with only a couple of low grade examples, including card #1. The Brodeur card technically grades lower than its EX appearance due to evidence of once having been glued, with however no paper loss on the back (similar to a few others), with the Paille card at G and that of Plamondon, pictured in his previous Montreal Royals uniform, at VG. We don’t spot very many real unsightly creases – these will admirably fill a hole in a vintage card collection. Required to complete the set are #s 11, 33 and 62.
