The late Gary Bergman wore this photo-matched Team Canada No. 2 white jersey for each of the four 1972 Canada-Russia Series games played in Moscow. The 33-year-old Detroit Red Wings defenseman was one of only seven members of Team Canada 1972 to play all eight games during the Summit Series, and he certainly left his mark on Game 7. Bergman was in the penalty box when the Soviets scored a power-play goal early in the third period to draw even at 3-3. With Canada needing no less than a win to keep alive its faint hope of claiming victory in the eight-game series, Bergman sparked his teammates when he became incensed with Boris Mikhailov when the Russian star kicked him in the shins several times during a skirmish behind the net. Both were penalized for roughing once cooler heads prevailed, and Paul Henderson scored the second of his three straight game-winning goals with 2:06 remaining to set up a winner-take-all Game 8. This Summit Series treasure from Bergman's personal collection is photo-matched to the "C" of Canada by the distinctly open angle on the lower part of the "C". This striking heavy-knit sweater features a stylistic maple leaf rising up from the waist. The inside layer of white material beneath the red maple leaf has been trimmed out to make the jersey lighter, which was a typical customization seen on other game-worn jerseys from the Series. The number "2" is sewn onto the back beneath the word "CANADA" in single-layer tackle twill and the Maska tag remains in the back of the neck with remnants of another tag, long since removed to its right. The jersey was once framed and shows lines where it was sewn to hold in place in a frame on the left and front side of the jersey, the upper left and right sleeves, and all along the lower hem. The jersey was cleaned before being framed and a lot of the game wear was washed-out, with a faint black mark and a thin horizontal mark on the front of the left shoulder aside from the few instances of wear on the sleeves. Game wear that remains discernible includes red paint transfer high on the right sleeve and a bit low on the left sleeve, with a few faint black marks on each sleeve. Comes with an LOA from the Bergman family.
