Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

Appealing Habs stash here is led chronologically by a nifty dressing room shot of the 1949-50 Canadiens, with some trick photography resulting in two Bill Durnans in the photo! Seldom-seen are ’56-57 and ’57-58 group shots by Arnott & Rogers, as well as one picturing a late-‘50s Montreal team in suave “CHC” sports jackets. Team-issued pictures on thin card stock include a rare 6” by 8-1/2” black & white from ’64-65 and ten different from ’70-71 to ’83-84. One of the tougher Molson team photos, (’66-67), is present, along with a few other treasures, detailed on our website. Condition, for the most part, is outstanding and helps make for an exceptional and tempting ensemble.
A very scarce color team photo of the ’69-70 Canadiens is by Arnott-Rogers-Batten and mirrors most of the team-issued pictures in size at 5” by 7”, with the latter including group shots from ’70-71, ’71-72, ’75-76, ’76-77, ’78-79, ’79-80, ’80-81, ’82-83 and ’83-84. Special are a color shot of the ’75-76 Canadiens, (with a David Bier embossed stamp in the lower right corner and also stamped on the back) and a black & white Bier (also with both aforementioned stamps) of a 1960s’ Junior Canadiens team featuring then future Hall-of-Famers Serge Savard, Jacques Lemaire and Yvan Cournoyer – nice! A copy of the original 1909-10 team is a swell complement to the superb collection. The ’49-50 dressing room shot includes creases, with tack holes at the four corners of the ’56-57 and ’57-58 photos to be aware of, but otherwise, impressive near mint for the rest.
