Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

The legendary Jacques Plante used this Victoriaville stick with the Leafs in 1970-71, proving that pro athletes can indeed excel past their 40th birthdays, leading the NHL with a minuscule 1.88 GAA! Jacques’ classic and coveted autograph was penned in red ballpoint just below his knob tape job and shows up beautifully, as does George Armstrong’s further down, also in red. Blue sigs are weaker in between but recognizable are those of rookie Darryl Sittler, Henderson, Ellis, Ullman and Keon, with a dozen autographs below Armstrong rather tough to decipher, although Brian Spencer’s pencil job is bold. Stick has original black tape on the blade and paddle and exhibits game use with wear along the bottom of the blade tape, some tape missing at the heal, a chip in the tip of the blade, puck/stick marks on the paddle and blackened white knob tape. Solid and without cracks and with “Plante” stamped on the upper shaft, this is one inviting treasure!
Also to note is the single wrap of black tape in the middle of the paddle which covers fiberglass wrap, both of which have split and become partially detached.
