Jacques Villeneuve carried the #1 for the 1998 season as a reward for being the 1997 World Champion. Jacques and the Williams team were going to try and defend the title with a new car, the Williams FW-20, and a new engine supplier Mechachrome. The chassis and engine struggled during the season and Jacques could only manage 2 podiums and a 5th place finish in the World Championship.
This Bell Fueling II helmet, painted by Bell SPORTS Europe has been tagged 98.8 by the Bell trackside staff. The helmet his decaled with non-tobacco livery, the full race radio and drink tube remain attached to the helmet. The visor of the helmet is signed by Villeneuve. The helmet shows light wear inside and out and as per all of Jacques’ helmets the front and top vents have been covered to reduce airflow into the helmet.
Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. 98-8” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
