Above its awarded contemporaries in both elaborateness and sheer magnitude, this elegant and meticulously crafted 14K gold and diamond ring was presented to Pittsburgh Penguins Senior VP David Peart for the club’s victorious Stanley Cup championship in 2009. Featuring a rematch of the previous year’s final, the Penguins would finish 2nd in the Atlantic Division at the conclusion of the 2008-09 NHL regular season, then defeating Philadelphia, Washington and Carolina to meet the current-Cup champion Detroit Red Wings. On the strength of Marc-Andre Fleury’s 16 playoff wins along with the 10 combined points provided in the final by both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the Pens defeated the Motowners in 7 to claim their third Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.
Visually stunning and complex in construction, the size 11 ¼ white and yellow gold ring contains 167 diamonds, totaling approximately 4.50 carats along with a weight of 84 grams. 23 separate dies were utilized to create the keepsake, with the tableau topped with a full colour Pens logo in black onyx with an inserted pear-shaped 1.3 carat diamond, mounted over a diamond-encrusted Stanley Cup and encompassed along the outer rim with “Stanley Cup” and “Champions” in raised, angled letters. A dozen princess-cut diamonds are also visible over each shank, inserted above “Peart” in raised letters over the right along with the results from each playoff series, while the left feature’s “2009” in raised numerals with three embossed and diamond-encrusted Stanley Cups for each of the franchise’s wins. Engraved text within the inner band includes “Ya Hungry?” along with “The Pens in our hand”, while a stamp from maker “Intergold” is also present along with “14K”.
Enjoyed for almost a decade by Peart, the highly desirable championship ring features minor wear associated from use, with expected scratches and small nicks along edges, most prominently along the outer band. Identical to the examples awarded to Sidney Crosby and his fellow Pittsburgh players, the ring serves as one of the most attractive and ornately extravagant specimens we’ve ever had the pleasure of offering. An LOA from David Peart will accompany.
