The Calgary Flames finally climbed all the way to the top of the mountain in 1989, winning the Stanley Cup and reaching the NHL summit. Hall of Fame right winger Lanny McDonald, who scored in what would prove to be his final game, hoisted the Cup along with co-captain Jim Peplinski as the Flames became the only visiting team ever to beat the Canadiens for Lord Stanley's silver chalice at the Montreal Forum. Calgary avenged its 1986 finals loss to the Habs with a six-game win after surviving a seven-game first-round scare from Vancouver before sweeping Los Angeles in four straight and disposing of Chicago in five. This spectacular trophy, which was obtained from a different source than Lanny McDonald and not from his personal collection, is an unawarded example that was produced by Boffey and identical to those presented by the NHL to each member of the victorious Flames. The names of McDonald and fellow HOFers Doug Gilmour,Joe Mullen, Joe Nieuwendyk and Al MacInnis are listed along with the likes of Vernon, Fleury, Loob, Macoun, Otto, Suter and Ramage among the team members' names engraved below "Calgary Flames, 1988-89" and Flames executives and staff on the barrel of this beauty, which stands 13 3/8" tall and remains in absolutely brilliant condition. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
