Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Here is an interesting piece. An off-site game played during the 1924-25 season pitted the WCHL Saskatoon Sheiks against the Montreal Canadiens at the Arena in Niagara Falls, Ontario. With George Hainsworth in goal for Saskatoon, Bill and Bun Cook and the rest of the western squad took on the powerhouse Canadiens with Vezina, Cleghorne, Joliet and the great Howie Morenz. The four page program from the game is here, affixed to an ancient scrapbook page. Inside, the rosters are listed below a wonderful team photo of the 1924 Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens and Cook has added handwritten notes that read, in part, "the first team I played against after I turned pro in Aug. 1924". Also attached are a number of newspaper clippings with photos of the Cook brothers in their Sheiks uniforms and another team photo of the Soo Greyhounds, Allan Cup Champs. From the personal collection of Hockey Hall-of-Famer Bun Cook, complete with a letter of authenticity.
