Dazzling gold and diamond career milestone ring was presented to Borje Salming by the Toronto Maple Leafs to commemorate the great Swedish defenceman's 1,000th NHL regular season game. Salming became the first European-trained player to reach that milestone on January 4, 1988 during his 15th season in Toronto. He originally joined the Leafs with countryman Inge Hammarstrom in 1973-74 and recorded 39 points in his rookie season. Salming, whose success paved the way for fellow Europeans to follow him to North America, went on to record four straight 70-point campaigns in the late-1970s, twice finishing as the Norris Trophy runner-up, both times behind fellow Hall-of-Famer Larry Robinson. This sensational gold ring features nine large diamonds set in a tic-tac-toe pattern on the face. The bezel features "Toronto Maple Leafs" encircling the top in raised letters with "NHL" spelled out on the bottom. Raised gold images of hockey players adorn both shanks along with a banner on the left side of each shank. "SALMING" is engraved on the banner on the left shank, and "DEFENCE" is engraved on the other. "Congratulations on 1000th game from Leafs" is engraved in script inside the band of this size 11 1/2 ring, which is also stamped "Jostens" and "10K". Borje Salming's signed letter of authenticity will accompany this unique Toronto Maple Leafs career milestone ring.
