Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Wondrous collection of five special presentation pennants, the style often gifted and exchanged between players and teams in an age-old custom generally seen at international tournaments and games. These five Team USA pennants were saved by Bob Johnson as mementos of various international events he attended as head coach of the US National Hockey Team. Best are an early pair from 1973, each measuring 18" in length. Both are custom-made blue felt affairs, one having chain-stitched "US National Team, 1973, Graz, Austria" and the other sporting "USA World Cup 1973" in stitched-on felt letters and numbers. A 22-inch cream satin banner with gold trim and accents sports the logo of the United States Hockey Team and is dated to 1975 and is related to the World Championships held that year. Finally, we present a matched pair of fringed pennants, measuring 15", with the USA Hockey Team logo and "Sweden 1981". A nice group of seldom-seen on-ice gifts that belonged to a valued member of the US Hockey Hall of Fame. Obtained in an estate sale of personal items that had been saved by Bob Johnson and will come with a letter of provenance.
