Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/5/2013
Vintage photo pictures the men who brought New York its first-ever Stanley Cup championship in the spring of 1928. Photos include those of legends Boucher, Johnson, the Cook brothers and coach Lester Patrick. This was the year that the 44-year-old Patrick replaced injured goalie Lorne Chabot in the second period of game 2 of the finals against the Maroons. Patrick helped the Blueshirts to an unlikely overtime victory and the Rangers, in just their second season in the NHL, went on to down Montreal 3 games to 2, with Boucher scoring both goals in the 2-1 clincher. Matte-finish photo was originally obtained from Bill Cook's family and has been preserved in excellent condition with just some small creasing/cracking mostly limited to the border area. A terrific photo of a history-making team. Other players pictured in this rarity are Taffy Abel, Murray Murdoch, Paul Thompson, Leo Bourgault, Bill Boyd, Alex Gray and Patsy Gallighen.
