What an opportunity! Hall of Fame left winger Bert Olmstead wore this photo-matched 1959-60 Toronto Maple Leafs alternate captain's gamer at the dawn of the Buds' last Stanley Cup dynasty. Olmstead is pictured wearing this wondrous blue wool during the Leafs' game against the Montreal Canadiens on February 10, 1960, a 4-2 loss to his former team at Maple Leaf Gardens. Olmstead, who began his career with the Chicago Black Hawks, won the Stanley Cup four times with Montreal's 1950s dynasty. Claimed from the Habs by Toronto in an intra-league draft in 1958, he played in the Stanley Cup finals with the Maple Leafs three times in four seasons. Olmstead, who was inducted into the HOF in 1985, won his fifth Stanley Cup in 1961-62, his final season, when the Leafs won the first of three Cups in a row, and four overall in the decade. The height and placement of the alternate captain's A sewn on the left breast of this tie-neck treasure matches up to the photo of Olmstead forechecking beside Habs defenseman Cecil Hoekstra, who was playing one of his four NHL games, all with Montreal in 1959-60. Other rock solid photo-matches from this image include the placement of the top of the Leafs crest, the embroidered details on the white felt crest sewn-on the front, and the distinctive placement and spacing of the blue felt letters sewn on the crest. Olmstead's #16 is sewn on the back with zig-zag stitching in the middle of the white felt numbers. There are a total of 13 vintage team repairs throughout the jersey, as well as six unrepaired holes on the front that do not diminish the display of this incredible photo-matched Olmstead Maple Leafs game-worn jersey, which comes from the collection of the late Gord Hannigan. Comes with an LOA from the Hannigan family. The photo matches are the placement of the top of the Leafs crest in the triangle-shaped sewing line below the collar laces and grommets, the blue thread embroidered details on the upper area of the team crest, the distinctive placement of the blue felt TORONTO letters sewn on the white felt leaf crest on the front of the jersey (with the three last letters, “NTO”, sewn on slightly lower than the others), and the distinct spacing of the blue felt “LEAFS” letters (with bigger spaces between the second and third letters, between “LE” and “AF”, and between the fourth and fifth letters, “AF” and “S”).
The 13 team repairs include four sewing fixes on the front of the jersey, another pair on the back, six more on the left sleeve, and another one on the right sleeve. There are four unrepaired holes high on the left front, just below the shoulder seam, one on the front left just to the left of the Maple Leafs crest and another on the front tail.
