Russian superstar Alexander Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals 2011 Winter Classic CCM game-worn helmet is photo-matched to Washington’s “Turn Back the Clock Night” game on February 1. The Capitals/MeiGray LOA that accompanies Ovi’s red retro lid with his signature Oakley smoky visor and his No. 8 decal on the back states that he wore it in both games, first in the Caps’ 3-1 win in the NHL’s showcase outdoor game in front of a crowd of 68,111 at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field on New Year’s Day. Matching hologram stickers are on the LOA and inside the helmet. The helmet is photo-matched to distinctive scratches on the front of the helmet above the visor by two photos from the “Turn Back the Clock Night” game.
The photo matches from Washington’s 3-2 shootout loss against Montreal in the “Turn Back the Clock Night” game on February 1, 2011 are:
The lightning-shaped scratch on the right side of the front of the helmet that is visible when the helmet is held at an angle matches up perfectly with Getty Images photo #107843605;
The fine small scratch on the left side of the front of the helmet that is visible when the helmet is held at an angle matches up perfectly Getty Images photo #109046273.
The hologram sticker inside the helmet is located behind the padding on the back edge of the right ear.
