Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
It was the shot seen ‘round the world, certainly on the front page of every newspaper in Canada! Paul Henderson’s jubilant expression, frozen in time by Toronto Star photographer Frank Lennon, said it all as the Team Canada 1972 hero celebrated his third straight game-winning goal with Yvan Cournoyer to clinch the incredible Summit Series against the Soviet Union. This vintage framed display features a multi-signed entire front page of the September 29, 1972 edition of the Star, which Henderson has signed twice among the 29 autographs gathered in a variety of inks. Cournoyer, Phil Esposito, Clarke, Gilbert, Mikita and Ratelle are the other HOFers who have signed from Team Canada, which account for 21 of the autographs.
The late Gary Bergman, Rick Martin and J.P. Parise are among the other members of Team Canada 1972 who signed along with Awrey, Cashman, Ellis, Glennie, Hadfield, Dennis Hull, Redmond, Seiling, Stapleton and White.
Among the others who have signed are HOFers Andy Bathgate, Dick Duff, Henri Richard and Norm Ullman, referees Bill Friday and Bruce Hood, and broadcaster Dave Hodge.
