Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Hailing from the most important international hockey series in history, featuring the countries of Canada and the Soviet Union in an eight (8) game battle that saw Canada come out on top thanks to the heroics of Paul Henderson with only thirty-four (34) seconds left in the final game, offered here is this program that is one of the ones produced for the four (4) games in Canada, which is specifically from the second (2nd) game of the series at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada's only win on home ice, resulting in a 4-1 victory. At 10” x 10” and featuring Russian and Canadian flags on the cover, inside the front cover reveals a pair of ticket stubs from the legendary game stapled to the page that each measure roughly 1 ¾” x 4 1/2" while showing some minor wear that is to be expected from handling and age such as corner/edge wear, the odd small crease and light toning. Also having had another stub stapled in beside it from a different game, the program is found to be in overall good condition and complete, with some handling wear seen throughout, heaviest over the front cover via marks and creases, while the roster sheet on the interior sports penned notations about the game in blue ballpoint ink as well as written in Soviet jersey numbers. With some creasing and minor wear affecting some of the pages throughout the interior, the back cover of the book shares a condition much like its front counterpart. Also coming with roster sheet/luncheon invitation from the 1976 Canada Cup that lists all the team rosters on its interior, the likes of Bobby Hull (blue ballpoint pen ink), Phil Esposito (black marker ink) and Peter Mahovlich (black marker ink) have all signed near the list of Team Canada players with signatures that display well despite the ink autographs of Esposito and Mahovlich showing some minor fading from age and bubbling from the marker used. In overall good condition with handling and age wear observed throughout the front and back covers, edges and corners, the final international pieces included with the lot are found via a mini stick featuring the facsimile signatures of players from the Soviet National Team circa 1968-69 that measures roughly 22" from the tip of the blade to the top of the shaft which also reads "From the Eight Time World and European Champions and Three-Time Olympic Games Winners" on one side of the blade and finally, a pair of CCCP Hockey Federation lapel pins. Both the stick and the pins are found to be in overall excellent condition while all the items hail from the collection of T. "Perc" Topping, a former President of the Toronto Hockey League.
