The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
After a seemingly long 4-year period that saw the Hawks and Leafs (3) skate off with Lord Stanley's precious trophy, the Canadiens returned the Stanley Cup to Montreal in the spring of 1965 as Jean Beliveau turned in a Conn Smythe Trophy-winning performance. The talented leader did indeed lead with 8 goals and 8 assists as the 2nd place Habs took out the 4th place Leafs in 6 games and then edged the Hawks in a 7-game final. Beliveau scored 3 winning goals in the finals including the Cup-winner just 14 seconds into the clinching game, a 4-0 shutout on Forum ice. This exceptional silver-plated trophy presented to Beliveau features the engraved names of team executives, players and trainers in two columns. Among them are the men who would go on to win another 3 Cup titles in the next 4 years; Backstrom, Cournoyer, Duff, Ferguson, Harper, Harris, Laperriere, Provost, Richard, Gilles and J.C. Tremblay, Rousseau and Worsley, the latter the difference in the finals of ‘65 with 2 shutouts and a GAA of 1.85. Trophy has withstood the past 40 years in excellent condition with very little tarnish. There's a 1-inch wide indentation on the back of the barrel to mention. Another marvellous memento from another of Jean Beliveau's great playoff performances, it will be accompanied by the grand captain's signed letter of authenticity.
