Jacques Plante Auction March 2006
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/28/2006
This stunning miniature Stanley Cup represents the first of a record five consecutive NHL playoff championships won by the Montreal Canadiens and many hockey historians feel that the ’55-56 Habs were the most dominant team in the history of the game. That of course, is debatable, but one thing is for sure, this team had it all! Starting in goal where Jacques Plante won the first of his five straight Vezina trophies, continuing on to the blueline, anchored by Hall-of-Famers Bouchard, Harvey and Johnson, and then to the potent offense led by Art Ross and Hart trophy winner Jean Beliveau, the Richard brothers, Moore, Geoffrion and Olmstead. Rookie coach Toe Blake guided the team to a 45-win and team record 100-point regular season. In the playoffs, Montreal took care of both the Rangers and Red Wings in 5-game series. Beliveau scored in each game of the finals while the Rocket had the distinction of scoring the Cup-winning goal in a 3-1 victory on Forum ice. Their names are all engraved here in two columns, joined by the other contributors. This outstanding memento is in pristine condition and was produced in recent years by Boffey at the request of the Jacques Plante Foundation in Switzerland. Commemorating a memorable championship season and one that began a record that will likely never be matched. A letter of authenticity from the Plante family will be included.
