Overtime Christmas Auction #9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/5/2006
Fascinating group of vintage photos are mostly big 11” by 14” action shots featuring Gordie Howe and some of his Detroit Red Wings mates. The exception is an 8” by 10” photo dated March 24, 1955 and capturing Howe and Delvecchio with coach Skinner in the dressing room after the Wings’ 2-1 semi-final win over the Leafs, who the Wings swept before taking out Montreal in the finals. Two identical photos of Gordie and Toronto’s Jim Morrison are also from that game while early ‘50s action includes a nice one of linemates Howe, Abel and Lindsay causing havoc around the Rangers’ net, Howe and Lindsay combining to beat New York’s Chuck Rayner and Howe and Goldham threatening Boston’s cage, defended by Sugar Jim Henry. Completing the lot is one of Howe in close on the Boston goalie and one of Vic Stasiuk trying to impede Gordie’s progress. Great look at 1950’s hockey in big photos which are generally in nice EX condition with no unsightly flaws.
