Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Three cool items relating to a USA-only issue are offered up here, with the card depicting Red Wings' center Sid Abel originally cut from the back of a box of Royal desserts. Royal offered cards of both movie and sports stars, with eight different hockey players in the lineup. With uneven edges, the Abel example has a back crease which appears as a light bend when viewing the front. The scarce Royal Stars album, advertised at the bottom of the card and available through the mail for 15 cents and three Royal package fronts, has been preserved in attractive condition, with a touch of soiling on the front cover and part of the clear plastic coating missing on the back. A comic book-size ad, with comics on the opposite side, is in difficult-to-expect-nicer shape and mentions "Gordon Howe" as one of the available stars, at a time when Detroit's Production Line was priming, even finishing 1-2-3 in scoring (Lindsay, Abel, Howe) in 1949-50, with Howe then winning four straight scoring titles.
