Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
A tremendous opportunity is on the auction block here, with this group of 1940-41 O-Pee-Chee oversized cards by far the most formidable raw ensemble that we’ve ever handled; so many and so nice! The vast majority, astonishingly, display little to no handling, with clean backs and only light intermittent corner touches to report. There are a few exceptions but we would say NM is the average, with light corner wear rendering some EX-MT. The NM-or-better lineup includes the rookie cards of Elmer Lach, Milt Schmidt and Ken Reardon, along with the (5” x 7”) cards of fellow Hall of Famers Toe Blake, Broda (two different), Drillon and 118-Apps, with the other Syl Apps card (#146) required to complete the set. The Max Bentley RC is EX, with four lower grade commons present; #s 129, 137, 143, 145. An EX Charlie Conacher card highlights five ’39-40 OPC bonuses, with a Foster Hewitt ’38-39 Quaker Oats picture completing and more details on our website.
The Hewitt piece, on cardboard stock and measuring roughly 6” by 7-1/4” is G-VG with light creases, while other ’39-40s are low grade and include 22-Goupille, 53-Heron RC, 69-Giesebrecht RC and 90-Mac Colville.
