Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Extremely difficult to complete in high grade, the 1936-37 O-Pee-Chee Series “D” V304D set is complete at 36, with a die-cut design utilized that was borrowed somewhat from the 1934 Batter-Up baseball series. This would be the fourth consecutive set issued in a continuous sequence, with the 36 cards numbered 97-132, with a number of HOFers present including Broda, Apps, Shore, Morenz, Joliat and others. We have a scarce original wrapper for the series from the London confectioner, along with an example of card #109 Alex Shibicky, encapsulated and graded VG-EX 4 (MK) by PSA. The seldom-seen 5” x 6 ¼” wrapper features a generic Maple Leaf, with the tag line “New and Popular”.
With expected fold lines and creases and displaying exceptionally well, the wrapper is free of the common edge tears that plague these early wax specimens.
