The thought of considerable amounts of gum being chewed during the 1933-34 hockey season, when some five hockey card issues were available to hockey and gum-loving consumers in Canada, is provoked by these dandy encapsulated relics, offered by Hamilton Chewing Gum Ltd., which even printed “PUCK GUM” on the backs of each. These are among the nicest you’ll ever have a chance at, with the 21-card skip-numbered set sporting a set rating of 6.80 at PSA, where it was a Certificate Award Winner from 2011 to 2015. Its components are led by four cards which were deemed worthy of lofty NM-MT 8 recognition. Pop 3s with none higher are 3-Marty Burke and 23-Pit Lepine, while also tied for first place is a Pop 2 of 42-Ebbie Goodfellow. King Clancy’s Pop 2 NM-MT 8 has been bettered by just one other similar #17 in PSA history. The Ace Bailey rookie card is slabbed EX-MT+ 6.5 and is a Pop 1 with none higher. The set’s key card, featuring a classic Howie Morenz pose, comes in at NM 7 (Pop 3, 1 higher), while the Charlie Conacher RC grades EX+ 5.5. Rookie cards of Leafs’ Hall of Famers include 2-Joe Primeau (EX-MT 6), 21-Red Horner (EX 5) and 29-Busher Jackson (NM 7). Colorful, coveted collectibles await their new home, with more than “puck luck” required to acquire this delectable “Puck Gum”.
