Full of intrigue and highlighted by the presence of three legendary Montreal Canadiens who had led the Habs to the club's second-ever Stanley Cup title the previous season are these little black and white treasures, issued by Montreal's Maple Crispette Company and inserted with the firm's candy products. Low grade assembly has a majority of P-F cards (21) with a side-to-side crease, as well as edge and corner wear. Fair outnumber Poor cards and include Montreal Hall of Famers Howie Morenz, Georges Vezina, Newsy Lalonde, (with Saskatoon at the time), Clint Benedict and Punch Broadbent examples among them, along with Hamilton Tigers' stars Billy Burch and Shorty Green, also HOFers. We see seven others at Good, including Aurele Joliat, with however it and two others with a small caramel-like stain. A Sammy Rothschild RC is among the nicer examples. A rare Sprague Cleghorn short-printed card and #29-Ganton Scott are required for completion. Also featuring first-year Boston Bruins, this issue has always been coveted by pre-war collectors.
For the uninformed, the rare Sprague Cleghorn card is thought to have been limited to reduce the number of prize winners, with the card backs offering a pair of skates in exchange for a complete set of cards.
