Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Any complete set of pre-NHL hockey cards issued by Imperial Tobacco always constitutes an interesting hobby event, with this assembly all graded and dominated by those inspected some years ago by PSA (36 of 46 cards). We'll lead with the key cards, housed in older PSA holders and highlighted by the coveted rookie card of legendary Canadiens' goaltender Georges Vezina. It is slabbed GOOD 2, the same mark given to the cards of fellow icons Newsy Lalonde, Joe Malone RC and Art Ross, with the latter two including "MC" qualifiers. Condition-wise, Cyclone Taylor's VG+ 3.5 entry is the leader among the biggies. Among the rest of the PSA-slabbed cards, a lone EX 5, #37-Bernier, stands out, with five at VG-EX 4; 3-Holden, 6-Dunderdale, 9-Lake, 25-Odie Cleghorn RC and 30-Hyland. A trio at VG+ 3.5 are 8-MacDonald RC, 28-Johnson and 39-Dallaire RC, while eight VG 3s are 5-Oatman RC, 13-Currie RC, 14-Ridpath, 19-Smith RC, 21-Lindsay RC, 27-Smaill RC (hand on hip), 32-Hern and 35-Russell. One Good+ 2.5 (26-Ronan RC), is followed by 13 at Good 2, including 1-Moran, 2-Hall RC, 10, 12, 15, 16-Lesueur, 24-S. Cleghorn RC, 27-Smaill RC (hand on stick)(MK), 29-Marshall, 33, 36, 40 and 45-Laviolette. Meanwhile, the nine SGC-encapsulated cards are led by 43-Payan RC (EX 5) and 18-Vair RC (VG/EX 4), with four at VG 3; 11-Walsh, 22-Gilmour RC, 34-Glass and 44-Poulin RC. At Good 2 are 23-Rowe RC and 41-Pitre, with 7-Mallen RC at Fair 1.5. One BVG representative is 17-Darragh RC at VG 3. Intriguing, colorful years-in-the-making treasure trove offers numerous possibilities, with "C" sets absolute requirements for important hockey card collections/portfolios.
